1 dead in huge blast at Indian Oil Corporation’s refinery in Vadodara

An employee and two others were injured in a massive explosion at an Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) refinery in Gujarat’s Vadodara on Monday, officials said.
The blast took place in a benzene storage tank on the Koyali refinery premises. Plumes of black smoke emanated from the refinery and were visible for several kilometres away from the spot. Fire officials said they prevented the blaze from spreading further, but the fire was not doused yet.
Officials of Vadodara Boiler Inspector Office reached the refinery and inspected the site and said there was no damage caused to the boiler.

Ten fire engines are present at the spot to douse the fire.
“There was an explosion in the benzene storage tank of the refinery. The fire is not completely under control but it has been prevented from spreading further. One employee has died while two are injured and they have been hospitalised. There is no cause for concern at the moment,” Vadodara Collector Bijal Shah said.
The IOCL refinery in Koyali is owned by the central government.
